I am excited because I am flying to Houston to attend the first big event for my son and his fiance's wedding. Amy's sister-in-law, Tammy, is hosting a couple shower on Saturday for Amy and Brandon. It will be a Baja theme featuring Mexican food and margueritas. Tammy is very talented at the art of entertaining, and I know it will be a wonderful event!
My sister, Jeri, is flying to Houston from Florida to attend the shower, too. She will stay with me at my son's apartment, and we will have a chance to visit with each other which will be nice. I am so glad Jeri is able to attend the shower. I wish my Mother was still with me and could be there on Saturday. I know she would have loved to be a part of the fun. It is times like this that I really miss my Mom.
The weather in Houston will be much warmer than where I live in the Seattle area. We are currently having weather in the 60's. Texas is still having some temperatures in the 90's so I am selecting clothing that is very cool from my summer wardrobe. When you are going to spend a few days away, packing takes planning. I select outfits one by one and place them out where I can view the pieces I have selected. Then, I select accessories to go with each outfit. Sometimes, I try on the outfits if I haven't worn them for a while to check the fit. When I have all my clothes laid out for each day, the last thing I do is to put them in the suitcase carefully. As any woman knows, packing takes a lot of time and thought.
Because I lived in Texas for several years, I have a few pair of cowgirl boots like most gals from that area. Because of the temperatures there right now, I don't think I will be taking any of my boots! I will save these for a trip in March when I go back to visit and attend the Houston Livestock and Rodeo. :) Because the shower is a Baja theme, I have selected a turquoise dress that was designed and made over in Seattle at Cicada Bridal. I thought it would be cool and comfortable with the current temperatures in Houston.
The dress can be made more dressy or casual based on the jewelry you select. I have several pieces of silver and turquoise jewelry which will look nice with the dress and fit in with the Baja theme. I will wear this bracelet which I have had for several years. It was purchased from a place I used to love to shop at called the Turquoise Lady which used to be in the Galleria Mall in Houston. I also have a ring that matches the bracelet as well as earrings.
I have several types of turquoise jewelry. Here is a necklace that I made myself...
As I am packing for the trip, I am thinking about my son, Brandon, and how quickly time has flown by. It doesn't seem so long ago that he was a little toddler, and now he is a 28 year old young man preparing to stand at the alter on November 5th with his beautiful bride to be, Amy.
I want to savor each special moment as I witness another milestone in my son's life. I want to record the events that are beginnning to unfold in the many photos I will take and in my heart. I am so happy to be a part of it all.
Think of me on Saturday, October 1st, as I attend the bridal shower for Brandon and Amy. I look forward to telling you all about it next week and sharing some photos with you. Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope you have a beautiful day! xoxo Kim
