Why not do something fun today and head over on the ferry to Seattle?
Enjoy the thirty minute ferry ride across the Puget Sound to Seattle. There are several sailboats out on the water today. As we get closer, the "Emerald City" comes into view...
Almost ready to disembark at the Seattle ferry terminal. We are walking into Seattle and headed to the Seattle Aquarium which is situated along Elliott Bay.
I love going as a "walk on passenger" on the ferry to spend a day over in the City. I love to take in a museum, grab lunch and do some shopping. As we near the terminal, you can see the familiar skyline with the famous Space Needle which was built for the Seattle World Fair years ago...
Let's head down the street to the Seattle Aquarium, shall we? Hope you brought your comfy walking shoes...you can get quite a lot exercise walking around the City. You see a lot of people with backpacks, Northface jackets and comfy shoes throughout the Seattle downtown area. People in the Northwest dress for the weather and comfort. Even in the winter months when the weather is drizzly, cool and overcast on many days, you see a lot of people walking the streets of Seattle. The rain doesn't stop the action in Seattle...most of the rains we get are light drizzle/mist and you really don't need an umbrella on most days. I have lived in the Seattle vicinity for 6 years now and have seldom opened an umbrella. The rains we get here are nothing like the rains of the South I was used to. Not only are the rains much lighter but you also seldom hear any thunder. So, when the rains begin, you just put your hood up and keep going...so....off to the Seattle Aquarium...lets look for Nemo...
The Seattle Aquarium is small but packs quite a punch... very worth seeing! My husband and I are members of the aquarium so we stroll through to see the aquatic life quite often. We took our grand-daughter when she visited from Florida last summer, and she loved it. They have an area where you can touch the starfish which is a big hit with the young and old alike. We spent quite a bit of time in this area with some of the aquarium guides.
Don't you love the colors of the starfish? Now, time to visit some of the tanks of fish.
You can see why they call this next fish a lion fish. My older son used to have one of these in his aquarium when he was young.
Well, I have kept an eye open for Nemo while we have been browsing, and I think I have found him!
Look at all these fish...
Let's see if we can find one of these Strawberry Anemones.
I think we have spotted one.... Look at the colors....
Now, we are in for a treat! It is time for the resident octopus to be fed! Here he is in the tank...
Wow! Let's take a closer look...
The octopus is becoming very active. I think he realizes that it is feeding time... Can you spot his head down at the bottom?
The aquarium guide is ready to get in position at the top of the tank...
She is going to put the food on a very long stick that she will place into the tank to offer the octopus.
Here she is getting the stick ready... The octopus is ready. He has done this routine several times and is anxiously awaiting his dinner. You can see that he is repositioning himself.
After the feeding is over, we continue our tour of the aquarium and visit many more of the tanks. Then, we say goodbye to Nemo and head back down the street towards the ferry terminal. I am so glad you were able to visit the aquarium with me... Wasn't the octopus interesting? Let's stop by Pike Place Market and get a few veggies and some flowers to take home.
What a great day we have had. I hope that you have enjoyed the visit to the Seattle Aquarium.
Have a beautiful day today! xoxo Kim

Thank you for the sweet comment, Lori. The octopus was so amazing to me in the way it can change not only the shape of it's body--but also the color. When we first arrived at the aquarium, it was a dull putty color. When it saw the food, it came alive! :) You'll have to show it to Emma. Have a great day. xoxo (((hugs))) Kim

Hi Trish,
I hope you are enjoying your weekend, too! The aquarium in Sydney sounds wonderful. The octopus in the aquarium do get quite large. They are well taken care of and fed regularly. When they grow too big for the tanks, they are released into the Puget Sound. I am hoping to see one of the releases one day. It would be interesting. Have a nice weekend. xoxo Kim

Hi Ashley,
It was a joy to take Brenna to the aquarium! We all had so much fun. The octopus was, indeed, very interesting. We were all captivated! I am looking forward to seeing your upcoming posting on the strawberry picking! Love, Kim
