Collecting Limoges Boxes
As a child, we are all enchanted with boxes. We all remember the stories of pirates in search of a buried treasure. As the stories go, when the chests were found, they always contained something special inside. As the lid slowly opens, we wonder, will there be gold , diamonds and rubies, or a map to a larger treasure? Ahhhh----the curiosity builds! A “treasure” means different things to different people so I will let you imagine what is in the box when it opens.
Fascination is still there for me with things that open. What does the inside of the box look like, and is there something there? Could there be a secret inside the box? I have never lost my fascination with treasure boxes as a child. I think this is why I love Limoges boxes! I was so excited when I first discovered these beautiful little boxes that open. Most Limoges boxes are empty when you open them, but some have little surprises inside. You may have a squirrel box that contains a nut inside or a wedding cake box that may contain a little ring. There are hundreds of boxes out there in all shapes and sizes. All beautiful!
Many decorating books and magazines feature the boxes in a collection. They are placed on coffee tables, end tables, or nightstands and placed alongside other items of décor.
I enjoy collecting the boxes and have them on end tables and coffee tables throughout my home. My family and friends know I love collecting Limoges and I am thrilled when I receive one as a gift for a special holiday or birthday.
As you know from my blog, I love butterflies and one of my sons bought me a beautiful Limoges butterfly box for Christmas one year. I was so touched by his gift and placed the box with some that I have on my nightstand.
The nice thing about collecting these small “treasures” is that they are small enough that you can put several in a grouping on a table to display.
I really love my little “treasure boxes” and the hunt goes on for more! One of the boxes I received from my sister really DID have a valuable treasure in it---going back to the pirate stories. She gave me this beautiful frog Limoges box.
When I opened the box, there was a note. When I opened the note, it read “Always remember, I love you” ARRRGGGGG----matey, this pirate struck gold! J I still have this little note in the frog box. My little treasure!
Thanks for visiting my “nest” at Bluebirds and Butterflies and have a “bluebird day” today! Kim
Stop by the nest again for future updates...
By the way, the man with the fish in the photo frame is my Father. You can see he caught a fish so it was a "bluebird day" for him! I love seeing this photo of him everyday. My sister and I are in the last photo. We were having fun with some vintage bathing suits! This photos was taken when I lived in Florida. Those of you in sunny Florida might remember the ski gals of Cypress Gardens. Loving them as kids, we immediately went into some of their poses when we put on those suits. Ha! The sky was so beautiful that day. Thank you to everyone who has given me any of the Limoges boxes pictured in my post. xoxo Kim

Thank you! My sister gave me the frog Limoges box with the note several years ago. It is very special to me. I also love the butterfly one that my son gave me. Love them all, but those are my favorites. Collecting is fun! Thanks for the nice comment. xoxo Kim
