Mora Iced Creamery

Icecream is such a part of our lives....

 

Think about it...     Icecream is involved in almost every important event in our lives since the day we were born.   It was one of the first deserts we were introduced to as a toddler. 

Icecream was there to help us celebrate our first birthday and it will be there to help us celebrate our last.   It has also helped us celebrate many other events in our lives....baptisms, first communions, high school or college graduations, retirements and many other events and milestones in our lives.  Who can forget the ice cream socials? 

Or the old malt shops and ice cream parlors where the servers scooped up your icecream with a smile while wearing a white hat, white shirt,  and bow tie?  I can remember going into an icecream shop as a child and being overwhelmed with which icecream to choose...chocolate chip, cookie dough, butter pecan, peach, strawberry, cherry, or even bubblegum.   And then, there were the banana splits.... and all those toppings....  

Can you imagine hot apple pie or birthday cake without at least offering icecream?  Some things are just meant to go together....


I think of many things when I think about icecream...     But, the first thing I think of is my Dad.   There is nothing my Dad loved to eat as much as icecream.   Icecream was his very favorite desert, and my Mother always had it on hand for him.   He would eat a little bowl of icecream almost every night as a snack.   When I was growing up, my Dad would drive our family to the beach for the afternoon, and we would always stop by a little drive thru icecream shop for a snack on the way home.  We would always order a hot fudge sundae or a vanilla icecream cone with a hard shell of chocolate over the icecream.  The little place that we used to stop at was close to the neighborhood that my husband grew up in and it was called "the Cup and Cone."  I am sure that many people that grew up in the little beachtown of Central Florida where I lived remember this icecream shop.  

Sadly, my Dad (and Mother, too) are gone now... but there is a little icecream shop in the Norwegian community my husband and I live in that my Dad would have loved...  everytime I go into this shop, I think of my Father.  The shop is called Mora Iced Creamery, and it is located in the quaint little downtown area about a five minute walk from our home.    The creamery is located in the shops just past the marina where we moor our sailboat.  In the spring and summertime, my husband and I will walk over to the icecream shop and order an icecream and then walk down to our boat and sit on the boat and enjoy our treat.   All of Mora's icecreams, sorbets and yogurts are made in nearby Bainbridge Island.  They only use fresh and natural ingredients. 

Mora's goal is to make icecream the old fashioned way...just like your great-grandmother did.   All the icecream is made in small batches using fresh milk, real eggs and cane sugar.  Mora creates their own recipes and has developed over 70 wonderful varieties.  The recipes are tested over and over again.  At Mora's, you will find all your favorite flavors plus many unusual and delicious flavors such as marron glace, dulce de leche, chocolate with raisens in rum, Mascarpone, Mexican chocolate,  goat cheese with fig, banana split and lemon bar and others. They also offer some wonderful seasonal icecreams such as Rose Petal Icecream around Valentine's Day, Lavender in the summertime, and eggnog in the fall.  Everyday they offer at least  8 different flavors of chocolate.

 

Mora opened their shop in Bainbridge Island in 2006 and now have shops in Poulsbo and Kingston as well.  Even if you don't live near one of these shops, you can enjoy Mora icecream in the comfort of your own home because Mora ships their icecream anywhere in the four corners of the United States. 



  On  a beautiful day, my husband and I enjoy walking to Mora Iced Creamery and ordering one of their delicious sorbets.    Our favorites are the grapefruit, pineapple or tango flavors.   Would you believe that Mora's will even give your dog a teeny-tiny scoop of a vanilla that is made especially for your pooch!  It is "doggy safe" and my little Sadie Mae loves it!  

So, if you are ever looking for my husband and I on a beautiful day....check our boat...you will probably see us sitting out topside enjoying the pretty view and savoring a delicious sorbet or icecream from Mora Iced Creamery...and thinking of my Dad.

Hi Kim, all that ice cream sounds Yummo!!! my favourites are passion fruit banana chocolate and vanilla oh and lemon sorbet when I think of America one of the first things that springs to my mind is ice cream parlours it's a good thought. Yum, Mora's icecream sounds so good right now! There are so many fond memories surrounding icecream! Love the photos of your dad as a young boy, and especially the one where he is holding you. What a handsome man, and you are adorable. Just before I read your post..I was in the kitchen missing my mom for a moment. Over the years, we enjoyed a lot of icecream together.

Sitting on the bay atop your sailboat sounds very peaceful. So that's where you got your name Bluebirds and Butterflies because your dad said "Have a Bluebird day." What lovely memories. Your post brought tears of joy and fond memories.
