Like many people in the world today, I will be watching the television coverage of Prince William and Kate Middleton's beautiful Royal Wedding...
For Kate, a "commoner" as she has been called, this will truly be a fairy tale come to life.... But, as we are learning, Kate is anything but common...
She is a well-educated, beautiful young woman who has captured the heart of someone dear to our hearts...Prince William--firstborn son of the beloved Princess Diana...who won us over years ago when she was a shy and blushing young bride. We all watched her in awe in the 1980's as she walked down the Cathedral with the endless train trailing behind her to recite her vows with Prince Charles. Diana won our hearts as we watched her overcome her shyness to become a graceful Princess and devoted and loving "Mum" to her two children, William and Harry. She became an icon of our time. Like many beautiful public figures, such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis ("Jackie O"), Diana's choices in fashion made the cover of many magazines....everything she did became news. Diana never lost her beautiful heart and diligently worked the causes she was passionate about such as fighting illness such as aides or the dangers of landmines. We hurt for her when her affections were not returned by the Prince and watched them ultimately go their separate ways.
As a single "Mum" with two children, Diana made sure that her children were protected and loved. The children were her focus up until the day she died in the tragic car crash. Like many who heard the news of her death, I was shocked to learn that she was gone. A light gone out way too soon... We will never forget the beautiful and graceful Princes Diana.
My Mother in Law happened to be in England at the time that Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married. She bought a replica ring of the blue sapphire engagement ring that Diana wore...the same ring that Prince William gave to Kate Middleton. I wore this ring as my "something blue" in my own wedding. Sadly, my Mother in Law, Sadie Singer, is no longer with us. I have her sapphire ring which I treasure...not only because it was the replica of Princess Diana's ring, but because it belong to my Mother in Law. I know Princess Diana would be happy to know that Prince William gave the ring to the woman he loves...
Princess Diana would be so proud of her son, Prince William, today as he stands at the front of the long Cathedral waiting for the woman he loves, Kate Middleton, to make her famous walk down the aisle to stand at his side at the front of the Church where they will recite their vows. I know Prince William and Prince Harry will think of their beloved Mother many times today and wish she could have been there to share in this happy occasion. I can relate to this because in November, my son who was born about the same time as Prince William, will be getting married in Houston, Texas, and I will be very sad that my Mother, who would have been so excited and loved to have seen my son and his fiance marry, will not be there to witness it. I have to believe that my Mother, like Princess Diana, will be there in spirit and be smiling...
I know that Princess Diana would be very proud to see the fine young men that her sons have grown up to become. We can see a bit of Princess Diana in Prince William when he smiles.... Both sons share her love of helping to make the world a better place through their charity work, and she would also be proud of that.
As I have mentioned in the past, I collect teacups and china. My Mother in Law had a beautiful Paragon teaset which I now own. A few years ago, my husband and I discovered that Paragon makes numerous patterns, and we began to collect teacups of different patterns that were made by Paragon in England.
We discovered that Paragon has made several commemorative teacups in honor of the Royal family in England.
I have several pieces of commemorative china that I have collected over the past few years. Many are by Paragon.
On the back of the saucers, it will tell you what event the cup and saucer were commemorating. For instance, this next saucer will tell you that it was made to commemorate H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and H.R.H. Prince Philip's visit to Canada in 1959.
Here is a dish that commemorates the coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
Saving the best for last---here is a dish that I found in a shop that commemorates the 1981 wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles...
I wanted to celebrate the fairytale wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton today. It will be a fabulous historic event that will be watched by the world and by Princess Diana in heaven... Congratulations to the happy couple. May you have a long and happy marriage together. Best Wishes!
Have a happy day today! xoxo Kim

What a lovely post today. I watched a couple of video clips of the Royal wedding and thought that Diana would have been so proud. I'm sure that she was there in spirit. I too was very sad when I heard about her death at a time when she was so very happy. Kate and William are a beautiful couple and I wish them many years of happiness. She is a stunning woman!
Your teacups are lovely! Can't wait to see your pictures from Calgary! I've always wanted to go there.
Love and hugs, Sandy

Hi Kim, didn't William and Kate look stunning!! my mother was English so I grew up with a great love for the Royal family. I was in London in 1994 for work, just in time for the trouping of the colour I will never forget it the colours were stunning. I remember ringing Mum from my motel room in London she was soo overwhelmed that I was there that she couldn't talk to me from crying she came to Australia when she was 2 and never went back. Have a great day Trish xox ;)
