When my husband and I lived in Florida, we used to love to go a Bed and Breakfast in the Indialantic area called Windemere by the Sea. This was a beautiful and tranquil place to stay that was located right off the beach and was one of my favorite places to stay in Florida. The rooms were beautifully decorated and each room had a beautiful live orchid plant in a pot instead of fresh flowers. The orchids added a nice touch to the decor of the room.
As an Innkeeper, it was a very smart idea to use orchids to decorate the rooms because the blooms last a very long time. Each room had a gorgeous orchid by the luxurious bed and near the jacuzzi bath, and the Innkeeper didn't have to change out a bouquet of flowers every three days. So, even though orchids can cost a little more to buy, they are very cost efficient when you add up the cost of replacing a bouquet often. How beautiful they look in a room!
There are always little things that we notice in our daily lives that remind us of a special time or place. Whenever we see these reminders, we are transported for a moment back to this calming and healing place. When I look at an orchid in my home, it always takes me back to Windemere by the Sea. I reminisce and experience the feeling again---if only for a moment---of being in a place that was peaceful and tranquil.
Last week, I noticed some beautiful orchids at a local nursery and purchased three plants for my home. I had purchased a couple of oriental teacups and the teapot you see in the photo above at a local antique store. I have the matching sugar and creamer as well. Unfortunately, the teapot did not have a lid. I guess the owner had either broken or misplaced it. The teapot was at a good price, so I decided to purchase it anyway.
When I returned home from the nursery and was looking for a container to put one of the orchids in, I thought of the teapot. I love the way the orchid looks in the teapot and placed it on a table in my den.
At Eastertime, we think of all the spring flowers. I can remember being a child and watching all the ladies walk into church on Easter Sunday with their Easter bonnets and beautiful Easter corsages on. Almost always, the corsage contained an orchid... What are some of your early memories of an orchid?
In the next photos, you will see some of the white orchids I bought at the local nursery.
There are so many varieties of orchids.
When I look at my orchids, I picture my husband and I at the Bed and Breakfast. I think about us walking along the quiet beach and looking for shells....listening to the gentle roar of the ocean waves and feeling the breeze blow against our faces and into our hair. When you close your eyes, just the thought is relaxing...
What sights or sounds remind you of something special? Perhaps it is the sound of a distant bell or the laughter of children. Maybe it is a shell, a rose or even the tall grass blowing in the wind. Hold close these reminders and take time to appreciate them when you see or hear them....and let it bring you peace.... Have a beautiful and relaxing day today! xoxo Kim

Good morning Sandy!
Thank you for your sweet comment. I found the rooster at World Market. They may still have these if there is a World Market near you. I thought it was very cute... I do not have my lens yet. Still window shopping for them at this time. My son is getting married in November so will be getting one to make sure I have it for this special event in November. Have a wonderful day today and great weekend. Sadie Mae sends her love. Your two little dogs are adorable, Sandy! (((hugs))) Kim

Hi Kim! Your welcome.
It's 8:13 p.m. in Michigan right now. Yes, we do have a World Market. There is one in Ann Arbor. Maybe I'll stop on the way home from work one day. I love Roosters! The bunny on top is cute. We're supposed to get some sunshine this weekend. Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to use my camera.
How exciting, your son is getting married this year! I'm sure you'll find the perfect lens to photograph the special event. Does your son still live with you? You have two sons don't you?
Tell Sadie Mae thank you! Kensie (my boy the brown and white Shih Tzu), and Kayla (monkey face) send their love too! Have a beautiful weekend!

Hi Sandy,
I hope you get some wonderful sunshine this weekend in Michigan! Thank you for the nice comments on my bunny and rooster...so glad you love them and hope you can find one at World Market for you. I do have two sons. My older son lives in Houston, Texas, and is the son who is getting married. He has a beautiful fiance that we adore. My younger son is attending college at University of Washington and lives at the campus when he is at school. My husband also has two beautiful daughters and a granddaughter who lives in Florida. Thank you for asking. We are very excited about the upcoming wedding...wish my parents were here to be a part of it. But, I know they will be in spirit :)
Have a wonderful weekend, Sandy, and I do hope you get some sun so you can use your new camera! Have fun with it! xoxo Kim
