I recently received the invitation for the upcoming wedding of my son, Brandon, and his beautiful fiance, Amy, in the mail. I was expecting the invitation to arrive and, on the day I picked up the mail at our post office box, the hand addressed envelope was there waiting for me! I was excited!
I took the envelope home and looked at the address on the front which was beautifully hand-written. A friend of Amy's was sweet enough to do some calligraphy for her.
There was also an envelope addressed to my younger son, Elliott. So nice that they gave him his own invitation to keep. It was addressed just to him. Elliott is going to be a groomsman in the wedding. This will be his first wedding to be a part of the wedding party. Big day for Elliott, too!
Amy had taken the time to hand seal each envelope and put a wax stamp on the back with the word "LOVE".... I am thinking about all the love that this envelope holds and represents.....not only the love that the couple has for each other, but also the love that surrounds them. Love of the parents for their children getting married and all the emotions that are tied with seeing your child become an adult and hold out their hand to walk down the aisle with a life partner. I am thinking of the song in "Fiddler on the Roof"...."Is this the little child I carried....I don't remember getting older...when did they?" Such an emotional song that is played at many weddings. A song that you truly understand the meaning of when YOU become the parent and watch your child get married. I am hoping I can get through the ceremony without too many tears streaming down my face. Wedding are big events filled with emotion. You are happy....but bursting with emotion.... as you watch your child experience a major milestone in their life. I know I will be thinking about my parents, too, and wishing they could have seen their first grandchild get married. I know they will be there in spirit though....and I know they would have loved Amy. xoxo
Everything is starting to go very fast now! My husband and I are attending a "couple shower" for Brandon and Amy over the next couple of weeks or so. On October 5th, we will be exactly one month away from the big day in Houston! It is exciting! It seems like just yesterday, they were becoming engaged on the "Peak to Peak" gondola at Whistler in late December. Here is a photo of Amy taken right after Brandon proposed. You can see the excitement and surprise in her face...
Another photo of them after they got off the gondola...
What a happy day! Brandon made a video of their proposal on the gondola which they hope to play at the rehearsal dinner. The movie is so touching and adorable. I am looking forward to them playing it for the other family members and their friends. Here is a photo of the two of them as a newly engaged couple. They were heading out to dinner on New Year's Eve 2011...
Hard to believe it is now so close to the wedding! There has been a lot of wedding planning over the past few months.... It is all coming together, and we are now on the countdown to the big day! xoxo As I look at the wedding invitation, I am filled with happiness and love for Brandon and Amy. I wish them a very long and happy life together. I am so happy to have Amy as a part of our family. We have loved her since the day we met over three years ago. She is a beautiful girl with a wonderful and sweet heart. It is so special that her Father created her wedding rings for the couple. He is a very talented jeweler in Houston and has won many awards on his fabulous creations. I know that creating a wedding ring for his daughter was the most precious thing he has ever created and made with lots of love! Little did Amy know that Brandon was working with her Dad to create a beautiful and perfect ring just for her. It was all a big surprise and the ring is truly beautiful....just like Amy! It was fun to watch the surprise wedding proposal unfold..... Now, on to the big day!
I am looking forward to all the wonderful moments in the month ahead and will cherish the memory of Amy and Brandon's special day forever....not only in the photo album that will be added to my bookshelf.....but also in my heart! xoxo
Brandon and Amy, here's to you and a very happy life together!
Thank you for visiting my blog today and for sharing in my happiness as the wedding date for my son and his fiance quickly approaches. I wish you much love and happiness today! xoxo Kim
Kim,
That's so exciting!! It is getting closer with every day, and I know how much this means to you. We were just talking the other day and said the next thing we have to do is send out our 'Save the Date' notecards. I'm so glad I got to see what one looks like because this is all new to me. You know how different things were when we were married. hehe I love the photo of Amy right after she was proposed to. The "LOVE" seal on the invitation makes it so special. What a great idea. This post made my heart sing, because very soon Nel will be going through the same thing. I am so happy for you too, as you will always remember this special day.

Hi Sheri,
Thank you for the thoughts and for visiting me today on my blog. I am very excited for you, too, as you prepare to send out the "Save the Date" cards for your daughter. You are right...things are very different today for couples getting married. Our weddings were very simple compared to the weddings today. No matter how big or small a wedding may be, however, it will be truly beautiful if there is love shining through the eyes and smile of the bride and groom. Love makes everything perfect! Love, Kim xoxo
