When fall and winter come to the Seattle area, the fireplaces are glowing and the wine is flowing :) The weather can be cool and drizzly in the Northwest outdoors, but the local restaurants, pubs, and coffee houses are very cozy inside in the wintertime. My husband and I love to visit some of our favorite local cozy restaurants and enjoy a nice meal together while enjoying the music performed by one of our local musicians and sipping on a nice glass of Merlot.
While enjoying dinner the other night, I reminisced about a recent fall trip to Wenatchee where we toured a couple of great wineries. We joined a group with Living Social for a bus tour to Wenatchee and Leavenworth to visit a couple of wineries. We had never been on a Living Social tour with a group before. I must say, everything was first class, including the motor-coach we were on for the tour, and I would never hesitate to join them for a tour in the future. Thought I would share a few photos from the wine tour on my blog....
The weather was cool on the day we boarded the motor-coach for our ride to Wenatchee and Leavenworth, but the sun blessed us with sunshine. It was great for my husband to enjoy the scenery along the way to our destinations and not having to be worried about driving. The motor-coach was very nice and comfortable, and the Living Social staff that accompanied us on our trip were very friendly, helpful and kept us entertained with a couple of games of trivia along the way. Most of the questions related to wine making to keep with the theme of the trip. When not guessing answers on a trivia game, my husband and I took in the view along the way that even included some snow in some places along the way. Time went by quickly, and, soon, we were at our first destination!
Our first stop was a great winery in Wenatchee called Chateau Faire Le Pont. Here is a photo of my husband, Mark, and I at the door of the winery....
I loved their pumpkin display by the door.... Inside, a wine tour and lunch awaited us. After being greeted, we divided up into two groups to keep the experience intimate. Our group headed downstairs to the barrel room...
The barrel room can bo cool so we were advised to bring an extra layer of clothing. Here I am with our group....
We were all given wine glasses so that we could taste some of the wine while in the barrel room on our tour. Here I am with the winemaker/winery owner as he extracts some wine for me to sample...
Salute!
I couldn't help but notice the beautiful grapevines that we hand-painted on some of the woodwork...
Here is my dear husband, Mark, holding my wine, too, so that I could make this photo of him to remember the day. Notice his scarf? I knitted it for him as a gift. I am a beginning knitter and always working on a project as I am learning. This is the first scarf I have ever knitted for Mark. He wore it for the first time on this day and loved it. The scarf is very warm, and I am happy to see that my husband reaches for it often when the days are very cold here in Washington State.
Loved the fall arrangement on the fireplace as we headed back upstairs for our next segment of the tour. Oh my favorite wine so far? A Port called "The Commander's Port." Our winemaker was a Commander in the Navy.....hence, the name. My husband and I loved this Port so much, we bought a bottle to take home with us.
We learned that the winery hosts many special events.....including wedding receptions. There was a section of seating prepared for a private party that day...
We had a great time touring the vineyards and our lunch was delicious! This is a posting that I started and never completed but I am going to go ahead and post it. I have taken a hiatus from posting on my blog but I am ready to dust off my blogging skills and start again. Although it is summertime here, and now 2016, I decided to go ahead and publish this posting. Maybe thinking about cooler weather and fall trips will cool some folks off in the South that are having high temperatures this June. Hope that everyone has a great day! I do recommend the Living Social trips....they do all sorts of things together. We have had a great experience with the Living Social team and would definitely do a trip again. Have a wonderful day....a "bluebird day!" xoxo
